This coming Monday, 9/12, we will be doing an activity in science class where students will be looking at how living organisms use and transform energy! As part of this lesson, students have been invited to bring a small pet to school that day if interested. If students are interested (and with your permission), pets may be dropped off in room 96 on Monday before school, starting at 7:45, and should be picked up after school, before 4 pm.
Just to re-iterate what the students heard in class – we are looking for small, caged animals (not dogs or cats). In the past animals including guinea pigs, mice, hamsters, lizards, snakes, birds, fish, have all been a success. Pets will stay in the science classroom all day, and are not to be taken with students from class to class, though students are welcome to visit their pets during brunch and lunch. Throughout the day, students will observe the animals, but they will not be touched or taken out of the cage except when the owner is present.
If your child has an allergy or other medical reason that would prevent him/her from participating, please return the attached letter. No action is required unless your child cannot participate due to allergies, etc… in which case an alternate activity is in place.
Thanks for your support and please let me know if you have any questions. This is always such a fun and memorable day of class!
