Dear students and parents,

 

It has been a busy two weeks and I have really enjoyed getting to know you!  Now that we have learned the routines and procedures in class, and have learned a couple of lessons,  I wanted to clarify some procedures with regards to grading and assignments.  

 

My grading policy is as follows:

 

30 %   Assignments (includes classwork, station activities and homework)

 

70%    Assessments (includes quizzes, tests, exit tickets, and projects)

 

Ideally, with the new block schedule, students will have some time in class to start their daily assignments.  The work that does not get completed in class becomes homework.  Assignments are due the next class period.  For some classes, that will be the next day.  For others it will be two days later (based on the block schedule).  The due date for each class period will be posted on SchoolLoop.   Assignments turned in on time will receive 100% credit.  Those turned in during the same week the work is due will receive 75%.  If an Assignment is turned in after the work week, it will only receive 50%.  I do not offer extra credit for points missed due to missing assignments, so it is very important that assignments are completed when they are due.

 

I update grades weekly. For the most part, by Monday morning of each week, your grades should be up to date.  If you receive an "M" for missing work or a "Z" for missing work due to absence, it will show up as a zero in the gradebook.  For Absences, you have the same number of days that you were absent to make up the work for 100% credit.  After that, I follow the same policy as all late work.

 

Just a reminder that I am available to answer work questions during brunch every day (except when I have brunch yard duty).  Please drop by if you don't understand how to do the problem set or problem of the week.
