Online Sign Up!

We are blessed with so much; let's give back a little and help others in our community! Sign up for any or all of the following activities.

By using SignUp Genius we will no longer be sending out confirmation emails. If you sign up, we expect that you will mark your calendar and honor your commitment. The system will send out a reminder email 2-3 days before the activity to the email address you used to login with SignUp Genius. If something comes up where you cannot go, it is your responsibility to remove your name from SignUp Genius as soon as possible to free up spots for others and for us to plan accordingly. If you are canceling or adding within 24 hours of the activity, please contact Jeanette Chang directly. The number of spots available is a little generous to make sure we have enough. We will contact you if we need to wait list anyone. The sign ups are time/date stamped; it will be first come first serve but with first priority to anyone wait listed previously or with parents chaperoning. Please refer to the descriptions below for drop off and pick up instructions.


Others First Program End of Year Recognition Event!

 

Others First Recognition Event, Lunch Time Activity – Tuesday, June 6, LUNCH AREA / PIZZA

Join us for the end of year recognition lunch time activity on 6/6/17, to recognize all the hours the Others First volunteers have given to help others this school year 2016-2017!   

OIS Principal’s Award (total volunteer hours – 25+ hours) and President’s Volunteer Service Award (total volunteer hours – 50+ hours) will be announced and handed out to participated volunteers.  We will have pizza lunch for all student volunteers who have significantly participated in the program and Popcorn to those participated Others First events.

Contra Costa Food Bank, June to August 2017

This event is no longer offered after school. All volunteers must register online this year using this link to the Contra Costa Food Bank& Calendar. You may browse through monthly calendar to view volunteer opportunities. Space is limited so sign up early! If only interested in Sort Food at Concord Warehouse during June to August 2017, check details here. Warehouse volunteers sort and box food donations, and box or bag fresh produce. This position does require standing and some volunteers may need to lift filled boxes up to 35 pounds. All volunteers must be scheduled. Groups in Concord may not exceed 15 volunteers per slot. Closed toe shoes are mandatory (tennis shoes are fine.)  Age 11 to 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers provide own transportation. Volunteers need to fill out and bring the Independent Activity Hours Form, and have it signed by the event coordinator to receive Others First volunteer/credit hours. Concord Warehouse is at 4010 Nelson Ave., Concord, CA 94520.


Lunchtime Activities - No Advance Sign-ups needed!

 

OIS Green Team, meetings on Friday during lunch, Room 11 (Ms. Kisch's room)

The Green Team is an active group that is trying to improve the environment, starting here at OIS! We have done many things to make the campus greener and cleaner. We monitor the recycle/landfill/compost centers, sort bins, educate students, conduct waste audits, and host lunch time activities which include "green screenings" and games. The highlight of the year is our week long celebration for Earth Week/Earth Day in April. We also participate in off campus activities throughout the year, Brower Youth Awards in the Fall and Goldman Environmental Awards in Spring, both in San Francisco. Knit-A-Square Project for Africa, Wednesdays during lunch, Room 33 (Ms. Hodder's room)

Come join us on every Wednesday lunch period in room 33 for a special knitting project. Students will be making 8' x 8' squares that will be sent to Africa and turned into blankets for abandoned orphans. Don't know how to knit? It's easy. Mrs. Hodder and her helpers will show you the basics. This project will be on going throughout the year. We welcome parents to join us. No knitting experience necessary.

  • Make every effort to honor the commitments signed up for as the community organizations rely on our ability to show up, be on time and fulfill the commitments.
  • Because of the large number of students signing up for activities, your student might not get the activity(ies) he/she has signed up for.
  • Students not getting a choice this period will have first priority in getting an activity the next period.
  • Students whose parents can drive will be given first priority!
  • We will contact you if we need to waitlist anyone.
